Draw Not Enough For Young Reds

Monday, August 11, 2008

A 2-2 draw with Real Madrid saw Liverpool's U18 side restored some pride after the chastening 3-0 defeat at the hands of Kashima Reysol yet they will be left pondering about what might have been after throwing away a 2-0 lead.

Liverpool went ahead through Adam Pepper in the 34th minute and Lauri Della Valle doubled the lead three minutes later. However, Real Madrid managed to draw level in the second half through substitutes Jimenez and Rodriguez.

This result, coupled with Kashima 3-0 victory over Ajax, means that today's game between the Japanese side and Real Madrid will decide who goes into the final with Kashima needing only a draw. Liverpool's stay in Spain will come to a close with the final game of the tournament against Ajax who are bottom of the table with two defeats and no goals scored.

Liverpool: Chamberlain; Metcalf, Kennedy (Dalla Valle, 12’), Coady, Roberts, Peppers, Eccleston, Kacaniklic (Ellison, 56’), Ince (Amoo, 49’), Pourie, Ajdarevic.
