Spreading the Word: Insight on Jesus Fernandez
Thursday, June 25, 2009
I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of goal.com: they're far too interested in spreading (mostly unfounded) rumours to take them seriously.
Yet occasionally they do come up with something that is worth reading. This week's interview with Cadiz youth coach Quique Gonzalez is a case in point.
The piece is of interest because it focuses on recent Liverpool addition Jesus Fernandez. What makes it particularly noteworthy is that it provides some insight into the talent of this 16 year old boy.
There's no mention of the comparison with Cesc Fabregas, contrary to how he was portrayed by most papers but, don't worry, it does say that we will be getting one of the best talents in Spain.
What will be interesting about the deal is to see where Fernandez ends up playing. So far, any young player bought by Benitez went directly to the reserves team. But will that be the case now that Benite has full control over the academy? Or will he opt to keep him in the U18s to see how he develops?

Well if the past is anything to go by then he will disappear into the Anfield machine just like the rest of those bought over the last number of years . From there he will never be seen either playing or on the bench ! What are they bought for ?
One of the best talents in Spain according to who? And if he was one of the best talents then why is he not selected for the Spanish National team of his age group?

As the (original) article states, it is his current coach at Cadiz who is claiming that he is one of the best talents. In fact, he expresses his amazement at his lack of exclusion from the national teams.
Jesus did play in the U-17 Euro Cup for Spain this season.
We have to remeber that he is hand-picked by Segura, the man responsible for players like Xavi,Iniesta,Messi,Bojan.
Personally I expect big things from this kid.

mate think about what you're about to say before actually saying it for crying out loud, did you not see the likes of Jay Spearing, Damien Plessis, Steven Darby, David Ngo'g, Emiliano Insua, Lucas, and Babel come on the pitch last season. Excluding Jay and Stevie, who brought all these youngsters to the club and who's giving them a chance play? Ask yourself how many Chelsea and ManUre kids you saw break into the 1st team this year and you'll find we probably had a higher number, so stop all this Rafa bashing about "not giving the kids a chance" and accept the fact that most of the kids we have were and are not ready for the 1st team yet and that includes Babel and Lucas but they still got their chances, perhaps thats why Rafa reshuffled the academy and reserve team(s) staff just to ensure that the conveyer belt that had stopped before starts up again. All i can say is good luck to our manager and his newish coaching team, YNWA.
